University History

Course Coordinator

I was Course Coordinator of the Master of Counselling degree since its inception. This was a successful and highly sought after qualification for practitioners from education, nursing, ministry, community services, health, pastoral care, leadership and human resources who wished to move into the counselling profession or to enhance their interpersonal relationships and communication skills. For a few years I coordinated the GradCertPastCare and BCouns, and was assistant Head of School.

Clinical Practicum Supervisor

As the inaugural Clinical Practicum Supervisor I was responsible for the placement, administration, coordination, supervision and evaluation of hundreds of students on placement.

Students from various degrees (MCouns, BCouns, GradCertPastCare) completed fieldwork in the community where they applied theory and research in the professional context. This practical experience was at the heart of what I see education to be, that is, students exploring the profession, their learning and themselves, whilst helping others.

Community centres, counselling agencies, hospitals, child and family services, education and youth facilities, corrective services and church organisations enthusiastically took students to complete placement. Many organisations employed students post-graduation based on a successful fieldwork experience.
